There are a number of strategies and initiatives to improve workplace safety and reduce workplace violence. These strategies have been developed and/or implemented at the government, industry, community and workplace levels.
This section aims to help employers develop their own violence prevention policies and procedures, and help employees better understand the strategies and initiatives they can use to protect themselves. Research suggests that an effective violence prevention policy is multi-faceted and incorporates a range of strategies after considering individual, organisational and situational variables.
The strategies and initiatives in this section focus on preventing workplace violence. A comprehensive violence prevention policy, however, should also include support and care for workers in the event of a violent incident.
